The greatest of Gondor, the cidadel of Minas Tirith was a vast fortified community built against the mountainside facing east toward Mordor. Minas Tirith has seven levels, each divided by a concentric wall with the Court of the Fountain and White Tower of Ecthelion at its crest. A great abutment sprouted from the bedrock like the power of a ship, from which one could survey all the countryside around the White City. In the war of the Ring, Minas Tirith became a rallying point for the forces of the West in their final stand against the onslaught of Sauron's overwhelming armies.
