London Tower Bridge
test
The capital of the British Empire, London, is thriving as one of the world's most prosperous and bustling cities. It is the hub of international economic activity, especially through its port which sees tonnes of merchandise trade hands. The piers are the scene of intense commercial activity. The River Thames is thus the world's most animated waterway.
1894 saw the completion of a new bridge linking both sides of the river. It was simply known as the Tower Bridge of London. Brainchild of city architect Horace Jones and engineer John Wolfe, the structure enables the passage of ships with high masts as the span lifts upwards in two sections alongside the twin towers. The top sections of the towers are linked by walkways which are accessible by elevator. The view from atop is simply breathtaking.
Since it's opening, a century's worth of water has cascaded between the towers. Previously clogged with maritime traffic, the Thames, is now a source of recreational activity, and attracts thousands of pleasure seeking tourists every year.
